Wendy Lynn Huggy (born July 14, 1965[1]) was a 16-year-old girl who disappeared from Florida in 1982. She may use the surname Freeman. Her most recent age progression depicts her at 52. Wendy may have been pregnant at the time of her disappearance.
Background[]
Wendy Lynn Huggy was born in Illinois in 1965. Her mother was a flight attendant and, because of her job, was often unable to take care of Wendy. As a result, Wendy often spent extended periods of time living with her grandparents in Florida. She dropped out of high school, however, she earned her GED, and she was hoping to attend cosmetology school. Wendy was married in Illinois, but was reportedly unhappy in the marriage and left her husband, returning to Florida the year of her disappearance. It is unclear how long the couple had been married when Wendy left.
Case[]
Wendy was last seen on April 7, 1982. Her grandmother dropped her off in Clearwater, Florida near the Patrician apartments, where her uncle lived, and the two had planned to meet that day. Sometime that day, she met a female friend who lived in the same apartment complex. Wendy, her friend, and her friend’s mother spent the day at Clearwater Beach. Wendy, who did not own a car, got a ride to the Countryside mall. While there, she called her grandfather and informed him that she would be getting a ride home from a man named Don. Wendy had plans to return to her grandmother’s house that evening, and she was scheduled to start a new job at Wendy’s the next day. She never arrived home.
Wendy’s grandparents reported her missing a week after she was last seen. Despite being only 16, Wendy was considered a legal adult because she was married. Police believed she was a runaway and her case was closed 15 days later. It wasn’t until three years after her disappearance, in 1985, that police began to investigate other possibilities.
