International Missing Persons Wiki

Toh Hong Huat was a student who went missing alongside his best friend, Keh Chin Ann during lunch break at school.

Case[]

Hong Huat was a student at Owen Primary School, where he was in primary six. He left for school around noon on May 14. His mom would normally drop him off at school, but he asked to walk that day so he could meet his friend, Chin Ann during lunch. Hong Huat supposedly met with Chin Ann during lunch period across the street from their school. Hong Huat and Chin Ann did not come back after lunch for the start of afternoon classes at 12:55 p.m., and neither of them have been seen since. There was a possible sighting of the boys on the island of Pulau Ubin, which is just north of mainland Singapore, but this was never confirmed. There was an extensive search for the boys, which was expanded into Malaysia and Thailand, but no evidence turned up. Chin Ann's father received a phone call regarding the boy's disappearance, supposedly by their abductor. However, His father had a stroke during the call and could not remember the details of it when he recovered. The boys' case received widespread media coverage, and was featured on the pilot episode of Crime Watch in November of 1986.

It is believed that Hong Huat's non-custodial father abducted the two boys and took them to live with him in Malaysia, where the three of them supposedly live today. Hong Huat lived with his single mother, and was estranged from his father at the time of his disappearance. There was also a theory that the two children ran away, but the boys' parents said that would be very uncharacteristic of them.

Hong Huat and Chin Ann's case gained even more attention when the popular fast food chain McDonald's offered a $100,000 reward for any information on the children's whereabouts. Because of this, the case became known as the "McDonald's Boys Case."
