On June 7, 1983, Tanya and her family were visiting her paternal grandparent's home. She was last seen in the back yard, and is presumed to have disappeared shortly after 8:00 p.m. It took twenty minutes for anyone to notice her disappearance.
A neighbor of Tanya's grandparent's claimed to have seen a car, described as being light-colored and luxury-sized with an opera window, stop near Tanya's grandparent's home at about the time Tanya was last seen. After stopping, a man got out of the car. When Tanya's disappearance was noticed and searches began, the neighbor saw a similar car driving up the road. When the driver noticed the search party, they turned around and drove off.
It's presumed that Tanya was abducted, but it's unknown if the car that was seen that night had anything to do with her disappearance.
