Background[]
Shannon was a troubled woman with two children who were in foster care at the time she disappeared. She had gone missing before in 2004 but returned. By 2006, she did not have a permanent address and was staying with friends and family. At that time, she was dating a man named Michael John Burroughs. Shannon was reported missing after Christmas in 2006, as her parents found it unusual not to hear from her at all during the holiday.
In 2010, Burroughs confessed to Shannon's murder. He said he strangled her, kept her body in the closet for days and then threw her in the trash behind his apartment building. In 2012, he was convicted of her murder and sentenced to 31 years in prison.
