Sangeeta Khanna (born 1965) was a woman who was last seen getting into a vehicle.

Background[]

Sangeeta moved from New Delhi, India, to Canada in 1983. She graduated from Bonnie Doon High School and studied early childhood development at Grant MacEwan College. Afterwards, she began working at her family's daycare business. In 1987, Sangeeta began an arranged marriage with a man she had recently met. The couple separated in 2000 and divorced in 2002.

At the time of Sangeeta's disappearance, she worked as a cleric at Alberta Permit. She had recently secured a contract with an oil and gas company.

Disappearance[]

Between 8:45 and 9:00 P.M., Sangeeta left her home on Ellerslie Crossing to go to the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) at the Mill Woods Town Centre. It was a five-minute drive away from her residence. She had a brief conversation on the phone with her father around the same time, who noted that she sounded fine.

When Sangeeta did not come home, her fifteen-year-old son, Kuran, began trying to call her. She called Kuran back around 11:00 P.M. to let him know she would be home soon, but he believed his mother sounded nervous. Around the same time of the phone call, surveillance footage from a Safeway Gas Bar recorded Sangeeta getting into a white van with a driver who could not be seen.

When Kuran woke up the next morning, Sangeeta had not returned. He told a friend's mother about what had happened, and the police were notified of her disappearance.

Sangeeta's blue 2005 Suzuki Grand Vitara, was found in the RBC parking lot on 23 Avenue and 66 Street. Inside it was a skateboard, pair of shoes, stack of bills, and an empty lunch container. There were no signs of suspicious activity involving the vehicle, and it was not damaged. Police believe Sangeeta never made it into the RBC since there was no recorded activity on her bank account from that night.

Suspect[]

Sangeeta's former boyfriend, Anthony, is the main suspect in her disappearance. The two had a relationship for about a year before Sangeeta broke up. Anthony was married at the time, but his wife stayed with him because she did not want their family to fall apart.

Anthony claimed to be at a casino on the night of Sangeeta's disappearance and slept downstairs when he returned home. However, his wife said that he was out all night. Investigators searched his vehicle, which resembled the one on the surveillance footage, and found a small amount of Sangeeta's blood inside. Anthony claimed the blood was from when they had sex in the van. Cell phone records showed that Anthony's phone was off until 3:00 A.M., when it was traced to Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan. Anthony's wife said he had no connection to the area.

Anthony relocated to Kelowna, British Columbia and eventually died from a heart attack.
