Sandra "Sandy" Kaye Butler was a teenager who was last seen in Sparks, Nevada on June 26, 1978. Her latest age progression depicts her at 59. Foul play is suspected in her case.
Background[]
Sandy lived with her family at an apartment building in Sparks, Nevada. They had moved there from California. Her family have stated that she would never run away from home.
Case[]
Sandy was last seen walking to the grocery store across the street from her parent's apartment. Police believed she was a runaway at the time, so they put little effort into her case.
It's theorized that Sandy may have fallen victim to serial killing duo Charlene and Gerald Gallego, who were active between 1978 and 1980, mainly in California, Nevada and Oregon. Almost a year to the day after Sandy disappeared, they kidnapped two teenagers from the Sparks fairgrounds.
Sandy's mother let her ride her bike to the Reno Rodeo at the fairgrounds that day. The Gallego's were known to be in the area when Sandy disappeared. Gerald died of natural causes on death row, but Charlene testified against him for a reduced sentence and was released in 1997. Police have not been able to question her about Sandy's disappearance.
