Robert Kihara was a man who went missing on October 25, 2003. He is suspected to have been murdered, however, his body was never found.
Case[]
Disappearance[]
Robert Kihara was last seen at a bar in Lowell, Massachusetts called Da Bassment. He was never seen again. One of his roommates reported him missing a few days later.
Investigation[]
Robert was due to testify as a witness in a case against one of the roommates who did not report him missing for rape of a child over 14 years of age with force, indecent assault and battery on a child. A couple days after he disappeared, Benjamin Orlale, the accused roommate, was spotted driving Robert's BMW. Before his scheduled court appearance in November 2003, Benjamin bought a plane ticket to Africa under Robert's name and took money out of his bank account.
Roberts car was found parked in a tow zone at Logan International Airport in Boston, Massachusetts with a substantial amount of blood in the trunk. This led investigators to search the shared apartment, where a large amount of blood was also found under the carpeting. DNA tests done on the blood found compared with his parents DNA confirmed the blood was Robert's. The amount of blood lost between both locations indicated that it was very unlikely that Robert survived. Benjamin Orlale fled to Africa before abandoning the car, but was arrested and extradited to the US in 2004. He was convicted of his original crimes and served 7 years. He was never convicted of Robert's murder due to lack of witnesses and lack of a body found.
Benjamin was later convicted of manslaughter in 2021 for the murder of his brother in Kenya.
