Rania Alayed was a woman who was murdered by her husband in 2013.

In February 2025, new information lead to Greater Manchester Police searching land near Thirsk, England. Human remains were found and later identified as Rania.

Case[]

Rania was born in Palestine and grew up in Syria. At age 15, she married Ahmed Al-Khatib, who was nine years her senior. They had three children together, and he was violent to her.

The family moved to England in 2005, and Ahmed's abuse of Rania was said to get much worse after the move. In January 2013, Rania left Ahmed and got a restraining order. She and her children moved away and were said to have become much happier after leaving him.

In June 2013, Ahmed lured Rania to his house by asking to see his children. She bought them over, and he murdered her. He then allegedly left the house with the children wearing Rania's clothes to make it look like she'd left it. He confessed that later that night, he put Rania's body in a suitcase and buried it in a ditch by the A-19.

Rania was reported missing by her uncle on July 3, 2013, and Ahmed was quickly arrested for the crime. He was found guilty of her murder in April 2014.
