Paige ran away from home on 23 August. It was reported that she was troubled, mainly due to her mother's death a few months earlier. She was reported missing on 26 August. However, due to a clerical error, the police mistakenly believed she was an adult and did not initiate any missing child protocols until she had been missing for a month.
The investigation revealed that Paige had befriended a 52-year-old man named Frank Ewing and had spent time at his residence. Inappropriate photos of her were discovered in his home, and traces of Paige's blood were also found. A friend of Frank's alleged that Frank had killed Paige and assisted in disposing of her body. Paige's body has never been found.
