International Missing Persons Wiki

Nikole Betterson was a young girl that went missing in 1977.

Case[]

Nikole was born to Jarrett Betterson and Susan Klingel. In September of 1977, shortly before Nikole went missing, the family was involved in a car accident in which Susan was killed. Nikole and Jarrett were not seriously injured, and Nikole received Social Security benefits as a result of her mother's death.

Nikole was last seen by Susan's parents around Christmas of 1977. Jarrett was now dating another woman named Barbara, and he told Nikole's grandparents that they were planning on moving to either Nevada or California. The three were not seen again until 1997, when the Klingels hired a private investigator to try and find Nikole. The investigator found Jarrett and Barbara, who had since married, living in Las Vegas. Jarrett had collected Nikole's Social Security benefits until she would have turned 18, but there was no paper trail to show that she was even alive by the time they left Michigan. Due to this, the Las Vegas Police Department became involved in the case, and they contacted Jarrett, who claimed he would meet with detectives and discuss Nikole's whereabouts.

Jarrett never met with authorities. Ten days after his last contact with the police, he killed himself as well as his wife in a murder-suicide. Since then, there has been no progress on Nikole's case.
