Case[]
Nikki disappeared from Redding, California, on May 18, 2024. On May 17, after visiting her brother-in-law in the hospital, she dropped her mother-in-law at her mother-in-law's residence in Redding Rancheria, a Native American reservation, and went home. She later texted her sisters at 12:35 AM on May 18 to say she was driving back to her mother-in-law's residence to drop off her mother-in-law's car, a white Chevrolet Tahoe, and that one of her husband's friends would be following her there in order to drive her back to her home in Anderson, California. She never made it home.
On May 24, Nikki's truck, a light pewter metallic 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck with disabled license plate number DP154UT, was discovered abandoned in western Tehama County, California. However, there was no sign of Nikki.
Nikki was supposed to appear in court for a settlement conference on June 3, shortly after her disappearance. She had planned to divorce her husband, Tyler Scott McCain, and get back custody of her four children and move into a new home with them after they were removed from her and her husband's care in 2022. Nikki's sister said she was "really excited" at the time of her disappearance and was looking at furniture for her new home with her children.
Tyler was facing four felony charges connected to an incident with Nikki in December 2023, including domestic violence, assault, false imprisonment, and making criminal threats towards Nikki. Nikki told authorities Tyler had bound her wrists and ankles, put duct tape over her mouth, and had beaten her for three hours, intending to kill her. Nikki's sister stated when she saw Nikki in the hospital afterwards, she could barely recognise Nikki due to the severity of her injuries. Tyler pleaded not guilty to all the felony charges and claimed Nikki sustained her injuries during a fight with someone else. On July 5, 2024, the charges against him were dismissed for lack of a complaining witness.
Nikki's disappearance is being investigated as a homicide, and authorities have identified persons of interest in her case. However, they have not been publicly named.
