Naomi was abducted by her mother, Monica Lucia Duran-Arenas, who was estranged from Naomi's father.
In July 2008, Monica took Naomi back to her home country of Mexico. Naomi holds both Australian and Mexican passports and was born in Queensland. It is believed that Naomi and Monica are currently in a town called Huatulco, located in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico.
A private investigator hired by Naomi's father in 2019 gathered information indicating that Naomi was attending a good school and was in good health.
