Morgan Keyanna Martin was a teenager who disappeared from Florida in 2012. She is presumed to have been murdered.

Background[]

Morgan regularly called her mother several times a day and was also an active user of social media. She did run away once when she was 15, but was found the same day after calling a relative from a friend’s house. She worked at Checkers Restaurant.

At the time of her disappearance, Morgan was 4 months pregnant with a baby girl, whom she planned to name Ja'Leah Raquel. She was excited about the pregnancy and becoming a mother. Morgan claimed that the father was a 24-year-old man named Jacobee Rashaude Flowers, which he denied.

Case[]

Morgan was last seen in front of her residence, sitting in an armchair, talking to Jacobee Flowers at 12:20 a.m. on July 25, 2012. She was reportedly planning on telling him the news of her pregnancy. She never came back inside. All of Morgan's belongings, including a sonogram photo of her baby, were left behind, except for her phone. All activity on her social media accounts ceased after she vanished, and she never picked up her paycheck at Checkers.

A white car was witnessed parked in the driveway of the home, but no one saw Morgan approach it.

Flowers reportedly did not want Morgan to have the baby, as he already had three children and was in a relationship with a different woman. He was also concerned because Morgan was a minor, and she allegedly threatened to report him for statutory rape if he did not pay child support.

Flowers was charged with first-degree murder of Morgan in June 2016. He could not be charged with the murder of her unborn daughter, as Florida law at the time only permitted murder charges if a fetus was able to survive outside the womb. He was already in custody on unrelated charges. Text messages between Morgan and Flowers discussing her pregnancy were uncovered, but Flowers claimed that they were playing make-believe.

In the spring of 2022, he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. The plea agreement stated that Flowers would be sentenced to 40 years, but if he was able to help police recover Morgan's remains, that would be reduced to 25 years. He claimed they were buried in a four-foot-deep grave in Pike County, Alabama. Police performed an extensive search of the area, but Morgan's remains could not be located. Flowers was sentenced to 40 years in prison.
