Mitchel Fred "Mitch" Weiser was a teenager who was last seen with his girlfriend in Narrowsburg, New York, on July 27, 1973. His latest age progression depicts him at 60. 80 unidentified decedents have been excluded as being those of Mitch.
Background[]
Mitch and his girlfriend were intelligent teenagers who attended a school for gifted students. In the summer of 1973, it was discovered they had secretly exchanged wedding rings. They both came from middle-class Jewish families. At the time of his disappearance, Mitch was working as a photography assistant.
Case[]
Mitch and his girlfriend Bonnie were planning to hitchhike to Watkins Glen, New York, to see a concert. They were last seen hitchhiking across State Route 97. The last person to see them was a truck driver who gave them a ride. It's unknown if they arrived in Watkins Glen.
Police believed they had run away together after discovering they had exchanged wedding rings. When Mitch showed up at Bonnie's workplace, she was refused the night off, so she quit in anger, saying she would be back to get her clothes and paycheck.
Despite the issues happening in the couple's lives, their families said they wouldn't run away. Mitch's family kept a phone listing in the Brooklyn phone directory in case either Mitch or Bonnie decided to contact them.
Years after their disappearance, Mitch's father received a collect call from someone identifying themselves as "Bonnie." The caller hung up before the operator could connect them.
Years later, in 2000, a witness came forward to say they had seen Bonnie and Mitch on the way to Watkins Glen. He was also on the way to Watkins Glen, and he said he saw the pair when he was hitching a ride on a bus. He overheard their conversation briefly and heard them talking about the camp.
When they got off the bus to cool off in the river, Bonnie started getting swept away, and when Mitch tried to save her, they both got swept away by the current. The bus driver said they would call the police at the nearest gas station, but the police never received such a call.
