Michael D. Mansfield was a young man who went missing in 1975.
He disappeared days before he was supposed to testify against his former roommate, Russell Smrekar. Smrekar had been charged with burglary, and Mansfield was a key witness against him. Russell Smrekar was later convicted of the murders of two other people and was considered a suspect in the disappearance of Ruth Martin, who was supposed to testify against him in a different case. He confessed to murdering both Mansfield and Martin on his deathbed in 2011, and although neither of their bodies have been found, the cases are considered closed.
