Melissa Diane McGuinn was an infant who went missing in 1988. Her latest age progression depicts her at 37.
Case[]
Melissa was last seen with Wanda Reed, who was living in the McGuinn home. Reed, who is mentally disabled, asked Melissa's mother if she could take the girl on a walk. She agreed, and the two left. Reed returned without Melissa only eight minutes later.
Reed has given various stories about what happened to Melissa. She has claimed that the infant was abducted by an unidentified man, that she sold her to a neighbor in exchange for drugs, or that she threw Melissa into the Delaware River. The neighbor that Reed claimed to have sold Melissa to was identified and is not thought to have been involved with her disappearance.
Reed was charged with kidnapping, but she was found to be mentally incompetent to stand trial and the charges are dropped. She was placed in a mental facility before going to live with family. Although it is considered likely that Reed killed Melissa, the true circumstances of her disappearance are unknown and her case is considered a non-family abduction.
