Melanie Jo Melanson was a 14 year old girl who was last seen at a party in an industrial park. Police believe that foul play is involved in her case.
Background[]
Melanie Melanson was born on 11/01/1974. Her parents had issues with alcoholism, and she was raised by her grandmother and aunts as a result. Unfortunately, Melanie's grandmother has died since her disappearance.
Melanie had ran away from home at one point but had contacted contacted family to let them know that she was safe.
In the time leading up to her disappearance, Melanie's family reported that she was happy with life and did not have any reason to want to run away. She was looking forward to her birthday and getting her braces removed. She was a freshman at Woburn High School at the time of her disappearance and was also looking forward to transferring to Northeast Vocational High School.
Case[]
Melanie disappeared from a party on the evening of October 27, 1989. The party was held at an industrial park near the Woburn/ Stoneham line. This was approximately an mile away from Melanie's home.
Melanie was last seen with two boys who she knew. After her disappearance each boy would claim that the other was the one to have seen her. One said that the last time he saw Melanie she was standing by a trail head in the early hours of October 28.
In August, 1992 an anonymous caller telephoned the police to tell them they would find Melanie's body in a pond. Authorities searched the pond in question but found nothing in it.
Melanie did not take any clothing or personal belongings with her when she disappeared. She also has not contacted her family since she was last seen. Police believe foul play is involved in her case.
