Irene Louise "Melanie" May was a young woman who went missing from California in 1988.

In 1992, three people were arrested for her presumed murder. She was allegedly beaten, stabbed, and tortured to death before her body was dismembered and her remains were buried on two different Native American reservations. All three suspects were convicted of Melanie's murder in 1995, with one of them, Kerry Lyn Dalton, being sentenced to death.

Despite the fact that Melanie's body has never been found, she is not listed in any missing persons databases.
