Maurice Gerse was a man who disappeared from Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on 6 August 2010.
Background[]
Maurice was born on 10 September 1976 on the Indonesian Island of Sumatra. When he was nine months old, he was adopted by a Dutch couple. Maurice subsequently grew up in Wassenaar, The Netherlands. He did very well at school and studied Economics, Management, and Law in Amsterdam, where he continued to live until his disappearance in 2010.
Since the beginning of 2010, Maurice has been working as a collection officer for a real estate company that rented out student rooms. The company is located in Amsterdam-East, the same building where Maurice was renting a room at the time of his disappearance.
Case[]
His employer last saw Maurice at his home on 6 August 2010, where they are said to have quarreled. According to him, Maurice simply left, though not before telling him he was going on a holiday. When Maurice's ex-girlfriend asked one of Maurice's fellow employees about his whereabouts, she was told the same story. However, she immediately regarded their explanations as strange, as Maurice had never mentioned anything. After this, Maurice failed to answer his ex-girlfriend's calls and never showed up for a meeting with his friends.
Approximately one week after Maurice's disappearance, his ex-girlfriend contacted his employer and fellow employees once again, and they claimed Maurice had taken time off from work for an additional week. Again, this was considered odd as Maurice had never mentioned anything about a vacation before his departure. Moreover, he had never gone on holiday by himself and would never have left his dog unattended, as he had done so now. Maurice was finally reported as missing by his ex-girlfriend and his employer.
Police believe Maurice has been the victim of a crime and is likely deceased. They speculate that his disappearance may be related to his work as a collection officer or due to his distant history of drug trafficking. In February 2015, police searched the building and its garden where Maurice lived at the time of his disappearance, but to no avail.
