Mathis Jouanneau was a boy who disappeared from Caen, France, on 4 September 2011.
Case[]
On 4 September 2011, Mathis's father, Sylvain Jouenneau, failed to return the boy to his mother. In a letter written in 2010, Sylvain referred to Mathis as a child of hatred and claimed that if anything were to happen to Mathis, he could not be held responsible. Between Mathis's abduction and Sylvain's arrest in December 2011, Sylvain was seen multiple times, but never in the company of his son. He was ultimately arrested in December 2011.
Sylvain has denied murdering Mathis, despite suspicions surrounding his involvement in the crime. He claims to have handed Mathis over to powerful individuals, but the courts do not believe his account. In 2015, Sylvain was sentenced to 20 years in prison for kidnapping, but he was not convicted of murder.
In April 2024, murder charges were filed against Sylvain regarding Mathis.
