Mary E. Buckley was a woman who disappeared from her home in St. Peters, Missouri on April 13, 2015. She suffered from several medical problems, including Alzheimer’s disease and COPD (which she used bottled oxygen for), and rarely left home.

Case[]

On April 21, 2015, hikers found the body of Mary’s 51-year-old son, Gary, who was her caregiver and her medical power of attorney, hanging from a tree at Eco Park in St. Charles after he’d taken his own life. Mary’s disappearance was discovered when police went to her home to inform her. Investigators determined that he’d died around April 13, when Mary was last seen.

Mary’s 2004 silver Hyundai Santa Fe was found parked in a wooded area just south of the Highway 370 bridge near Bridgeton, Missouri. It was near a train trestle on the east side of the Missouri River. Investigators stated that the car appeared as if it was deliberately hidden and that they believed that Gary had parked it there. He’d left a suicide note inside the car, and had also left a piece of wood with the words “I’m sorry” on it at the base of the tree he hung himself from.

Mary has not been found and is presumed deceased due to her health problems and the circumstances of her disappearance. She left behind three daughters.
