Police later received a tip that he had been shot to death and charged his friend, Joseph Stanley and Stanley's girlfriend, Christina Allen, with his murder. Despite the tip and confessions from both Stanley and Allen, neither individuals were ever convicted of Gentry's murder due to insufficient evidence.
