Lillie Darlene Miller was a young woman who vanished in 1981. Her fiancée, who is now deceased, was considered a suspect in her case.

Background[]

Lillie was born on September 17, 1960. She had five older siblings and was living with her mother on the 1300 Block of west 33rd Street at the time of her disappearance. She used to work at the Palm Beach Junior College but had switched to working a secretarial job closer to home three weeks before she vanished.

Lillie, who has been described as a religious individual, attended the Peaceful Zion Baptist Church, were she also taught Sunday school. Through this she met a man called Otis Morgan who she became engaged to. However, after Lillie vanished her family discovered that he had been lying about his past. He had told them he was a widower from Texas but he was actually from Alabama and his ex-wife was still alive.

Case[]

Lillie was last seen on December 11, 1981 when she left the Riviera Beach City Hall were she worked in Riviera Beach, Florida to have lunch with her fiancée, Otis Morgan. According to Morgan, the two ate at his apartment in the 4300 Block of Greenwood Avenue in West Palm Beach, Florida. Lillie did not return to work and has not been seen or heard from since.

Later the same day Morgan claims to have found Lillie's vehicle, a beige or yellow 1979 Pontiac Grand Prix, parked in a field on Avenue J, less than a Block from the municipal complex. It was unlocked and facing North. As a result of this discovery, Morgan reported her missing.

Morgan is considered to be a suspect in Lillie's disappearance. He had a history of violent behaviour towards women and was the prime and only suspect in the 1979 murder of Brenda Faye Gallow, who had been his live-in girlfriend at the time. He also came under investigation in 1980 for repeatedly beating and choking another girlfriend but the case was dropped after she refused to press charges.

Morgan left town in January 1982 but returned later that year. He said he felt guilt about something unspecified he done and that he wanted to tell police about it but he never did. He died by suicide in his residence on July 12, 1982; the date he had been set to marry Lillie. Caustic acid and bloodstains were found in his apartments but there was not enough blood to test.

Lillie's family held a memorial service in her honour a year after she vanished. Foul play is suspected in her case.
