Julie May Hill was a woman who went missing from Duluth, Minnesota in 1980. In 2005, her boyfriend pleaded guilty to a manslaughter charge, claiming to have unintentionally shot her.

Case[]

Hill was last seen in July 1980 from Duluth, Minnesota. There were signs at her residence that if she had voluntarily left, she did not intend to be away for long. Her family had varying opinions on the nature of her disappearance; her cousin had initially believed Hill had left for Las Vegas, Nevada, possibly living as a sex worker. Others suspected she had been murdered.

Hill's boyfriend at the time she disappeared, Donald Bloomer, was strongly suspected to be involved in her disappearance, as he was known to physically abuse her. Investigators interviewed him for a significant amount of time, and he refused to admit guilt. Around the time she vanished, he was observed digging on his property. Police searched the area, going as far as to tear down his home, but they were unable to find any trace of human remains or forensic evidence.

Eventually, he eventually confessed to accidentally shooting her in the face when she entered the basement of his home, while he was handling a gun. Investigators believe she was killed intentionally, yet Bloomer entered a guilty plea to second-degree manslaughter, and he served a mere three years behind bars. He claimed to have buried her in a wooded area near the city of Floodwood, Minnesota, but she has yet to be discovered.
