John R. Tavares is a man who went missing in Da Nang, Vietnam on June 18, 1965. He is among the twenty-eight American civilians who remain unaccounted for during the Vietnam War.

John Tavares, who is from Hawaii, was a United States Merchant Seaman assigned to the SS Audrey J. Luckenbach which was anchored at the port of Da Nang, Vietnam. He was last seen on the evening of June 18, 1965 at the Pacific Bar on Bach Dang Street.
Although investigations by both military and civilian authorities could not find any information on what happened to Tavares, enemy action was not considered a factor in his disappearance.
John Tavares remains among the over 1,500 Americans who remain unaccounted for in the Vietnam War. The DPAA has listed his case as being under Non-recoverable.
