Jeannette Kamahele was a woman who went missing in 1972 from California. She is thought to be an undiscovered victim of an unidentified serial killer.

Case

Disappearance

She was last seen by her roommate at 9:30 am when she was leaving her residence. She used to hitchhike to college and she may have been picked up by a white male, 20 to 30 years old, with afro hairstyle driving a faded brown Chevrolet truck.

Serial killer theory

Between 1972 and 1973, at least seven girls and young women hitchhiking around Santa Rosa or Sonoma County were murdered. They were all found nude and dumped in rural areas near ravines or creek beds. Several suspects, including the Zodiac Killer, Arthur Leigh Allen, and Ted Bundy have been considered, but no one has been charged as the serial killer. Authorities speculated Kamahele could have been a victim.

Additional confirmed and possible victims of the Santa Rosa Hitchhiker Killer include Sonoma County Jane Doe (1979) and Lisa Smith. Kamahele has been ruled out as the unidentified victim through dental records.
