James Liam Hunter was a man who disappeared from Dubbo, New South Wales.
Case[]
James was last seen in person by family members in December 2019, when he was in the Newcastle area in New South Wales. He last contacted his family on 25 January 2020, and after failing to contact his family for several months, he was reported missing in July 2021. James' last known bank transaction was at a pharmacy on Macquarie Street in Dubbo on 26 February 2020, but he has not accessed his bank accounts since.
In March 2022, James' blue 2005 Toyota Hilux ute was located on a property he was working at in Mendooran, and it was seized for a forensic examination. On 22 and 23 March 2024, 1,700 hectares of land north-west of Mendooran were searched using high-tech drones, where a total of 33,000 high-resolution images were captured and processed by investigators.
James lived in Tighes Hill, New South Wales, at the time of his disappearance, and frequently traveled to western New South Wales for work, including to rural properties at Dubbo, Mendooran, and Dunedoo. He was also known to frequent Walgett and Lightning Ridge, where he mined for opals. He regularly maintained contact with family, and his disappearance is considered out of character. He is the son of Australian actor Bill Hunter.
