Fred Charles Clifford Moseley was a teenager who disappeared from Texas in 1998. His photo is shown age-progressed to 28 years.

Case[]

Fred was last seen on July 25, 1998, in Canyon, Texas with his friend, Gerald Dooley. Dooley stated that he had driven Fred home that evening. Fred spoke with his father on the phone around 11:00 p.m. that night. He was never heard from again. His parents were out of town and reported him missing when they returned on July 30, 1998. Most sources list this as the date of his disappearance.

Fred’s vehicle, a 1998 Dodge Neon, was found abandoned in Randall County, Texas later that week. There were no signs of foul play, but the ashtray, keys, and a shotgun Fred usually kept in the trunk were all missing.

Two weeks after he vanished, police received multiple tips from an unknown individual claiming that Fred was alive and still in the Canyon area. His friend also reported possibly seeing him driving a vehicle near Canyon.

His father stated that in late July 1998, before his disappearance, Fred was hiding from someone. However, Fred did not provide any more information. Authorities believed he might have been suicidal, but his parents denied this. Fred's father and mother died in 2004 and 2008, respectively, and in their obituaries, he was listed as having survived them.

In November 2011, Gerald Dooley and a man named Mario Campos were charged with capital murder in Fred's case. Dooley confessed that he and Mario had strangled Fred the night of his disappearance and disposed of his body in a trash bin. He stated that the motive was robbery, as they wanted his shotgun.

Dooley was sentenced to ten years and agreed to testify against Campos as part of a plea deal. Campos was found guilty at trial in 2013 and was sentenced to life in prison. Fred's body has never been found.
