The day before her disappearance, an unidentified woman introduced herself to Ecaterin's parents and told them she had come from the state of Tamaulipas, Mexico, and that she was robbed in the central north. The woman said she had nowhere to sleep, and was allowed to stay as a guest. The next day, the woman took Ecaterin and left.
