Crystal Gayle Dittmeyer was a girl who went missing in 1996 from Oklahoma. Although her body has never been found, foul play is suspected in her case.

Case[]

Crystal's stepfather, Benjamin Crider, is suspected to have murdered her. After Crystal disappeared, Crider bore superficial injuries which he could not provide an adequate explanation for. In addition, he could not explain what he was doing during the approximately two hours he was unaccounted for the day Crystal vanished. Crystal’s younger half-brother told police that he saw her dead body in the home on the day she disappeared. Extensive bloodstains consistent with Crystal's DNA were also located throughout Crider’s apartment and in his vehichle. Crystal’s mother failed a polygraph test and was described as "neglectful" in various DHS complaints.

Investigators believe Crider killed Crystal after she showered in his bathroom, which was against his rules, and that he used a garment bag to transport her remains. He was convicted of her murder in 1998, however, the conviction was overturned in 2001. After this, he admitted that he had killed Crystal and pled guilty to manslaughter. He was sentenced to ten years, however, he had already served nine years by that time and thus was released shortly after pleading guilty. Crider claimed to not know where Crystal’s body was. He died in 2008.
