Elizabeth Ann "Beth" Kenyon was a young woman who was last seen in Coral Gables, Florida on March 5, 1984. Due to the circumstances, foul play is suspected in her case.
Background[]
Beth lived with a roommate and worked as a teacher for children with special needs. She was also a former fashion model, winning one and was a finalist in the Miss Florida beauty contest.
Case[]
Beth was last seen in the parking lot of the school she worked at. She briefly spoke to a security guard and left the area in her car. When Beth didn't return home, her roommate wasn't concerned as they believed she went to visit her parents in Pompano Beach, Florida.
On March 8, 1984, a gas station attendant who knew Beth recalled seeing her there. They said they saw Beth who had her car with her, but was talking to a man who had a different car. The attended didn't hear their whole conversation, but picked up mentions of Beth's picture being taken. Beth told the attendant she was going to the airport and left.
When she failed to show up for work the next day, she was reported missing. Little surfaced until March 11 when her car was found at the Miami International Airport. There was no evidence of Beth travelling anywhere and her name wasn't listed as being on any flights leaving Miami.
The gas station attendant who saw her on March 8 later identified the man she was speaking to as Christopher Wilder. They had previously dated and Wilder proposed to her but Beth turned him down due to their age gap. The police questioned Wilder about Beth but he said he hadn't seen her in over a month. Wilder reportedly knew where Beth's car was before the information was released to the public.
When Wilder became a suspect in Beth's case, he also became a suspect in the disappearance of 20-year-old Chary Gonzalez who disappeared on February 26, 1984. Beth and Chary had both been in the Miss Florida beauty contest.
Wilder has been considered a possible suspect in numerous disappearances, including Mary Opitz and Tammy Leppert. He is also a possible suspect in the murder of 18-year-old Mary Hare, who disappeared in similar circumstances to Mary Opitz and other victims of Wilder.
Beth is the second attributed victim of Wilder. He went on to go on a killing spree, murdering numerous young woman and girls. He died in New Hampshire in 1984 before he could be questioned with Beth's disappearance further.
