Austin Blu Stephanos was a teenager who went missing alongside Perry Cohen on July 24, 2015.
Case[]
Austin and his friend, Perry, went out on Austin's family's boat for a fishing trip. The boys were hoping to go to the Bahamas. They set out sailing just before noon on July 24. They stopped for fuel at the marina in Jupiter, Florida for fuel, then set out again. As they were sailing, a storm with up to 40 mph winds hit. The boys never came home, and their parents reported them missing at 5:00 pm that day. The Coast Guard searched, but the boys were not found.
There was a possible sighting of either Perry or Austin off the coast of Georgia two days after they went missing. A pilot reported seeing a boy hanging on to two pieces of styrofoam tied together with a life jacket. He was waving his arms for help. By the time help was called for, he had floated away. In March of 2017, their boat, along with Austin's cellphone, were recovered. The two life jackets were missing from the boat. The keys were in the ignition and were in the off position, and the battery switch, which is nearly impossible to turn off by mistake, was turned off. Because of this, some suspect foul play in the case.
