Police closed the case in 2009 after Curtis Dean Anderson confessed to murdering Amber. It was then re-opened in 2013.

Tim Bidner is another suspect. Amber's scent was found in his vehicle and near the grave site of another victim. He was never charged and didn't match the description of her potential abductor.
