Abrip Asep was an Indonesian police officer who was reported missing on Boxing Day of 2004 when the Indian and Ocean earthquake and tsunami of 2004 struck Aceh Province, the westernmost province of Indonesia.

In March of 2021, it was reported that a mental health patient who survived the destruction of the tsunami, but was left traumatized and therefore institutionalized at a local hospital, was Asep. His family learned about this through a family group chat on social media.

However, in June 2021, DNA testing by the local police confirmed the mental health patient was actually NOT Asep. The real identity of the mental health patient is unknown. It is now presumed Asep was among the 227,898 people killed in the natural disaster. He has since been declared dead.
