Estrada was stated to be a witness in a case against a teenage male named Ruben Torres, who was tried in 2007 for Estrada's murder, but the charge was dropped due to lack of evidence. Later in 2015, Torres was tried as an adult. He pleaded guilty to capital murder and was sentenced to 18 years in prison in 2017.
